Computer Programming: The Skill Of The Future

The importance of learning how to code cannot be overemphasized. The world is going techie and you need to know, at least, how the computer works.

The advent (approach) of the COVID-19 further instigates the need to learn how to code. We are in a new era (thanks to brother virus) and things will never remain the same, even when the pandemic is over. Everybody will think and go online to avoid any hindrance that a possible future catastrophe/chaos might cause.

This makes programming an important skill to learn and the job with the highest earning potential in the nearest future.

Look at the highest earning companies today (Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Facebook etc.) and individuals with the highest amount of fortune (Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos etc.); they are not those into oil and gas, they are not the sportsmen nor the entertainers, rather, they are those who are into tech or e-business. Do your research online and you would find out.

The illiterates of the future are not those who cannot read or write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn (Alvin Toffler). So even if you're not in anyway into computing, just learn, at least, to avoid getting left behind and lost in the nearest future.

Think about what you could do if you know how to code. The possibilities are endless. I have documented a few importance of learning how to code below. Read and reflect on them.

1. You Could Be a Freelancer.
If you're tired of working for someone. If you're tired of waking up in the early hours of the morning and running to work trying to beat traffic so you don't get fired from a job that barely even pays. If you hate and you're tired of receiving free insults from bosses. Then you should consider learning how to code. Programming is something you can do at your own pace. Are you tired of working under someone who tells you how to dress to work, when to come to work, and when to leave work (which is usually late)? Then go coding.

Being a programmer affords you the opportunity to be your own boss and do things your own way, at your own pace.

2. Computer Programming Is a High Paying Skill.
Check the stats, computer programming is one of the highest paying skill. Currently, there are over 2.4 million jobs in computer science available and only about 400,000 grads qualify for these jobs. That's a shortage of about 2 million people. The more reason why you should consider learning how to code so you can be among the first people to take advantage of this opportunity available right now.

I applied for a job some time ago—last year (at a big financial company) and got the job right away. One of the few reasons I believe I passed their interview was because I documented on my CV that I was a tech/computer literate.

3. Computer Programming Is All Encompassing.
Computer Programming is vast. There are a lot of opportunities available and different areas you could venture into. You could learn how to make video games, other apps, create websites, create animations and lots of other stuffs beyond your wildest imagination. All these will earn you cool money. The possibilities are endless; right now, robots have been designed that are capable of carrying surgical procedures in hospitals. Self driving cars are gaining grounds in developed countries. Nanotechnology is becoming a thing and flying cars are coming to limelight.

What about fashion? The popular brand D&G used a remote controlled mini quadcopter (drone) to carry one of their products through the runway where models usually walked on. This excited and got the attention of the viewers and I believe we'll see more of that in the nearest future. What does this mean? The answer is simple and I believe you already know; the world is going techie.

A lot of opportunities are and will still be available for Computer Programmers in the nearest future. I mean, I could go on and on, but for the sake of keeping this article brief and the fear of getting you bored, I'll stop here.
